The Notes-To-Questions Conversion Checklist
A quick checklist for turning pretty notes into questions, flashcards, and quiz prompts that actually test memory.
The Notes-To-Questions Conversion Checklist
Pretty notes are useful only when they become something you can practice. If the page looks perfect but never asks you a question, it is still source material.
Use this checklist right after a short cleanup pass. The limit matters: if note cleanup takes the whole session, studying got delayed again.
The 20-Minute Limit
- Spend 5 minutes fixing headings and messy sections.
- Spend 5 minutes circling the terms, formulas, dates, or steps that must be retrievable.
- Spend 5 minutes writing questions from the page.
- Spend 5 minutes answering those questions without looking.
Convert Each Note Type
- Definition -> What does this mean in my own words?
- Process -> What happens first, second, and third?
- Comparison -> How are these two ideas different?
- Formula -> When do I use it, and what can go wrong?
- Example -> What rule does this example prove?
The Pass-Fail Test
If a note cannot become a question, it may be decoration, context, or clutter. Keep it if it helps orientation, but do not let it steal time from retrieval.
Use It In StudyChamp
In StudyChamp, upload the note page and use the generated flashcards and quiz as the conversion step. Then edit anything that needs your teacher's exact wording.
