StudyChamp Training

StudyChamp Training Privacy Policy

This policy covers the StudyChamp Training app only. StudyChamp AI Study Packs has its own privacy policy.

1. Who We Are

This policy covers the StudyChamp Training app for iPhone and iPad ("Training", "the app"). The data controller for the limited personal data described here is Domenico Marco Di Donna, Via Lamaria 39, 80059 Torre del Greco (NA), Italy, who publishes the app as StudyChamp ("we", "us", "our").

StudyChamp Training is a separate app from StudyChamp AI Study Packs. The two apps do not share accounts or data. The AI Study Packs app has its own privacy policy.

2. The Short Version

  • There is no StudyChamp account, no advertising and no tracking.
  • Usage statistics are sent only if a parent allows them.
  • Profiles, practice history, progress and settings are stored only on your device.
  • Handwriting and voice answers are recognized on your device and are never saved or sent anywhere.
  • If you use app unlock, Apple's Screen Time keeps your choice of apps private: we never learn which apps were chosen.
  • If you join a group, the group name, the names of the profiles taking part, their scores in the group's games and the challenges launched to the group are stored in Apple's iCloud so other group members can see them. Adults can choose to show their profile photo too; children's photos are never shared. A parent approves profiles under 14. Optional usage statistics are described in section 7.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple. We never receive your payment details.

3. Data Stored Only on Your Device

The app saves the following on your device, inside the app's own storage. We have no access to it.

  • Profiles: name (a first name or nickname is enough), optional year of birth, an optional photo you pick from your library (saved as a small square copy), and the times tables you already know.
  • Practice data: exercise results, answers, response times, chosen answer method, levels, progress charts, entry-test and weekly-check results, and custom workouts.
  • Settings: language, look, sounds, haptics, practice preferences and onboarding status.
  • App unlock settings: Apple's opaque tokens for the apps, categories or websites you chose, unlock times and limits, and a short log of recent blocking events for troubleshooting.
  • Parent PIN: only a salted hash of the PIN, never the PIN itself.

The year of birth is used only to suggest a starting difficulty and to choose which app-unlock setup to offer. Questions asked during onboarding, such as daily phone time, are not saved.

4. Handwriting, Voice and Photos

  • Handwriting is read by a recognition model built into the app. The drawing is cleared after each answer and is not stored.
  • Voice uses Apple's speech recognition in on-device mode only. If your device can't recognize speech offline, voice answers are unavailable rather than sent to a server. Audio and transcripts are not stored. The microphone is used only while a question is waiting for a spoken answer.
  • Photos: a profile photo is chosen with Apple's photo picker, which only gives the app the photo you select. The app does not use the camera. The photo stays on the device unless an adult profile chooses to show it to its groups (section 6).

5. App Unlock (Screen Time)

App unlock is optional. It uses Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity frameworks.

  • You (or a parent, with their Apple ID through Family Sharing) authorize Screen Time access.
  • Apple's picker gives the app opaque tokens, not app names. The tokens stay on the device. Nothing about your app choices or usage is sent to us.
  • The app shows local notifications (for example "Unlock with a challenge"). App unlock does not use push notifications; only groups do (section 6).

6. Groups (iCloud)

Groups are optional and require an iCloud account. They use the app's public CloudKit database, operated by Apple; no one's personal iCloud storage is used.

When you create or join a group, the following is stored:

  • the group name, its type (family or friends) and its 12-character code;
  • for each profile taking part: the profile name, its daily challenge and daily crossword scores from the last 14 days, and its scores in the group challenges of the last days (challenge number, correct and answered questions, seconds per answer, answer methods and completion time);
  • group challenges: when a member launches a challenge to the group, the game they set up (its questions, rules and title), the launcher's profile name, the closing time, a topic derived from the group code and the random installation identifier described below. A challenge stays open for 24 hours and is deleted by the launcher's device 7 days after it closes, or when they leave the group;
  • profile photo (adults only, optional): a small copy (96 × 96 pixels) of the profile photo, only if the profile switched on "Share my photo in groups". The option is offered only to profiles whose year of birth shows they are surely adults. Turning it off removes the photo from the groups at the next sync;
  • technical metadata that CloudKit adds to each record, including an app-specific identifier of the iCloud user who created it and timestamps. This identifier does not reveal your Apple ID email.

Notifications: when a member launches a group challenge, the other members can be notified with the launcher's name and the challenge title, taken from the challenge record above. When a profile completes the daily challenge, the app also stores a short event so the other members can be notified: the profile name, the number of correct answers, the challenge number, a topic derived from the group code and a random identifier created by the app on that installation (so you are not notified about your own games). The previous day's event from the same place is deleted. Members who leave notifications on receive them as push notifications through Apple's CloudKit service; you can turn them off for each group or in iOS Settings.

Years of birth, practice history outside group games, and the photos of profiles that are not adults or have not chosen to share them are never uploaded.

Profiles under 14: a parent approves, with the parent PIN or an adult check, before a profile under 14, or without a year of birth, creates a group, joins one or starts taking part in one.

Who can see it: anyone who has the group code can join and read the group's names, scores, challenges and shared photos. Share the code only with people you know. A profile name is visible to the group exactly as written, so we recommend a first name or nickname.

Removing data: leaving a group deletes your places in it. When the creator leaves, the group is closed. Deleting a profile, or stopping it from taking part, removes its place at the next sync. If a member is removed by the creator, or if the app is deleted without leaving a group, some records can remain in the public database: email us with the group code and we will delete them.

Apple processes this data as our infrastructure provider under its own terms and privacy policy. Apple may store and process it outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Such transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, for which Apple is certified, or on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses included in Apple's terms.

7. Usage Statistics (Only With Your Consent)

Statistics are off unless a parent says yes. The app asks after setup, outside onboarding. A parent confirms with the parent PIN or an adult check. You can change the answer at any time in Practice settings › Privacy.

Once a day, the app sends one record per device per day of use. It contains counts: app opens, sessions per activity, minutes practised, unlocks used and setup completed. It also contains context: app version and build, iOS version, iPhone or iPad, app language, the region set on the device, number of profiles, whether app unlock is on, whether StudyChamp Family was purchased, the week statistics were first sent from this installation and whether this is an App Store, TestFlight or development build.

Names, photos, birth years, answers, handwriting, voice, scores, group codes and contacts are never included. There is no device, advertising, iCloud or profile identifier in the statistics fields. Apple adds the CloudKit creator metadata described below.

Records are stored in the app's public CloudKit database, with Apple as our infrastructure provider and processor. We use the counts only to see which features are used and fix problems, never for advertising or profiling. We do not sell them or share them with other companies. Because the database is public, these records can be read by other app users, including users who are not signed in to iCloud; they are not private records. CloudKit adds an app-specific creator identifier and timestamps to public records. The statistics payload contains no identifier, but this technical metadata may link records from the same iCloud account.

Without an iCloud account, nothing is sent. Counts wait on the device for up to 30 days, then are deleted.

Turning the switch off stops counting at once and deletes unsent counts. It does not automatically delete records already sent. Contact us if you want to request deletion of those records; the statistics fields alone cannot identify your device. Records are kept for 24 months, then deleted.

8. Purchases

StudyChamp Family is available as a yearly subscription (with a free trial where offered) or as a one-time purchase. Purchases are made through Apple's App Store with your Apple Account; Apple processes the payment under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. A parent confirms before a purchase, with the parent PIN or an adult check.

The app asks Apple, on the device, whether StudyChamp Family is active for your Apple Account (including through Family Sharing) and unlocks the included content. This status is not sent to us. The only exception is the yes/no "StudyChamp Family purchased" fact in the optional usage statistics (section 7), sent only with consent. You manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings.

9. What We Don't Do

  • We don't sell or share personal data for advertising.
  • We don't collect analytics without consent.
  • We don't use third-party analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs.
  • We don't track you across apps or websites.
  • We don't use your data to train AI models.

10. Sharing You Choose

The app can prepare texts and pictures to share, such as your daily challenge result, a family ranking (which includes the names and scores of profiles on the device), a group podium (the names, pictures and scores of the top three and the group code) or a group invitation. They are sent only if you choose to share them, through the app you pick (for example WhatsApp).

11. Children and Families

StudyChamp Training is designed to be used by children together with their families.

  • No account and no email address are needed. A profile needs only a name, which can be a nickname.
  • Under the age at which Apple requires a child account (for example under 14 in Italy), Screen Time access can only be approved by a parent through Family Sharing.
  • A profile under 14 (or without a year of birth) takes part in groups only after a parent approves with the parent PIN or an adult check. We recommend that the parent also chooses the name the child uses there.
  • Children's profile photos are never shared with groups: the option exists only for adult profiles.
  • Consent for statistics is given by a parent, behind the parent PIN or an adult check. A child cannot enable statistics without that check.
  • Parents can see, change or delete a child's profile on the device at any time, and can ask us to delete group records.

12. Legal Bases (GDPR)

  • Contract / requested service: to store group names, scores, challenges and notification events so the group feature works, and to provide purchased content.
  • Consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)): for an adult's profile photo shown to their groups, given by switching on "Share my photo in groups" and withdrawn by switching it off.
  • Consent of the parent: for group data of children under 14 (GDPR art. 8 and art. 2-quinquies of the Italian Privacy Code), given in the app before the child takes part. It can be withdrawn by stopping the profile from taking part or leaving the group.
  • Legitimate interests: to respond to support requests and keep the group feature secure.
  • Consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)): for optional usage statistics. You can withdraw it at any time without affecting processing before withdrawal.
  • Consent: for microphone, speech recognition, notifications and Screen Time access, which you grant through Apple's permission prompts and can withdraw in iOS Settings.

13. Retention and Deletion

  • Data on your device stays until you delete it. Deleting a profile removes its history, progress and photo; deleting the app removes everything stored by the app on that device.
  • Group records stay until they are removed as described in section 6, or until we delete them on request. We may also delete inactive group records.
  • Usage statistics records are kept for 24 months, then deleted in a monthly cleanup. Turning statistics off deletes unsent counts at once; without an iCloud account, local counts expire after 30 days.
  • Group notification events are replaced each day; leftover events are removed with the group's records.
  • Group challenges are deleted 7 days after they close. A shared profile photo is removed when the option is turned off, the profile stops taking part or leaves the group.
  • Support emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request.

14. Your Rights

Groups, shared photos and usage statistics are optional: if you don't use them, nothing about you leaves the device and the rest of the app works the same. We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing, and we do not profile you.

Under the GDPR and other applicable laws you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Most data is only on your device and under your control. For group records, email support@studychamp.app with the group code.

You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Italy this is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

15. Security

Data on the device is protected by iOS app sandboxing and your device's security. Group data is protected by Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

16. Changes to This Policy

We will update this policy if the app's data practices change, for example before adding any new feature that sends data off the device. The latest version is identified by the "Last updated" date above.
